2009-2010 Classes
New additions
to the band courses will be offered in Fall 2009 and some existing classes will
have new meeting times. Contact your counselor to
enroll.
Symphonic Band will meet 8th hour and will
function as the Marching Band during the 1st quarter.
Meeting 8th hour means that band practice can continue without interruption from
class time to after school rehearsal. Rehearsals will run until 4:15 pm on
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday with extended rehearsals taking place
before performances. Wednesdays will be early-release days, and no
after-school rehearsals will take place.
Two classes have been added to
the fall schedule - Drumline and Colorguard
. Meeting concurrently 7th hour during the first semester, these classes
will provide students with instruction during classtime and an opportunity to
earn course credit.
THS has two Jazz Ensembles. Jazz
Band meets 3rd hour and is open to students with previous experience on
one of the following instruments: flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French
horn, trombone, tuba, percussion, piano, bass, or guitar. Enthusiasm for
Jazz music and notation reading skills are a must for this course.
Jazz Ensemble mee ts 5th hour, and an audition is required
to enroll in the class. Prior experience playing Jazz on one of the above
instruments is required for participation.
Supporting the Bands and orchestras
At the end of the 2008-09 school year, many
of the executive board members of the THSBOP (Band and Orchestra Parent
Association) stepped down from their positions when their sons and
daughters graduated from THS. This important support and fundraising
organization made possible numerous activities and services including band
festivals (registrations and travel costs), scholarships, funding for marching
band staff and supplies, fundraiser organizing, event organizing (banquets and
BBQs), special project funding (Mark Wood concert), and much more. Without
the THSBOP and/or community support, we may be unable to provide most of these
opportunities for THS music students. The THSBOP can only exist
with adequate membership, and its non-profit organization status will
expire in the coming year if board positions remain unfilled. If
you are interested in serving on the THSBOP or in another band/orchestra support
role, please contact Cody Gifford, Band Director, or Nancy Marble, Orchestra
Director.
Please complete the Parent Information
Form and send it to school with your band/orchestra member. If you prefer,
you may e-mail the form to the director link in the blue box. Parent Information Form
